Dolphin Encountours Research Center has been active in the area of dolphin eco-tourism since the mid 90's having pioneered in-water dolphin encounters in Mozambique with the aim of establishing a sustainable longterm monitoring project through the research and conservation arm of DolphinCare, an initiative that now sees some 300 dolphins identified in the area. Dolphin Encountours offers three to seven night dolphin encounters whereby one can connect with the resident Dolphins of Ponta through a structured, ethical and educational experience. Early mornings will find you on the water and thereafter the days are yours. Encountours include accommodation, brunches and potentially life changing experiences with wild dolphins.
Six months of the year we spend observing and collecting data on the majestic humpback whale migration. Interns and Volunteers stays are available for students, sojourn seekers and anyone wanting to spend an extended time in the company of marine mammals. Tours are accommodated at different venues in Ponta do Ouro, depending on guests requirements.
The program is structured and guided by Dolphin Care Africa’s on-site biologist Diana, long term skipper Mitchel and program founder Angie.
Programs include pre-training with snorkeling & swim code of conduct, interesting conservation & research presentations, tribe t-shirt, image downloads, membership to DCA & early morning encounters with the dolphins.
A highly commended program that 99.9% guarantees that you will swim with the dolphins while actively contributing to their wellbeing! Start days most mondays and thursdays.
Angie has been swimming with a pod of wild inshore bottlenose dolphins that go by the scientific name of Tursiops aduncus for almost two decades! During the mid 90’s she was honored to be able to share the space of this gregarious species who welcomed her into their watery realm. Although that first encounter was brief, it triggered a response that what was soon to become a lifelong commitment to the well being of dolphins.
Educational and ethical practice have been the foundation of encountours since its inception and participants gain a special insight into the realm of the wild dolphins of Ponta through an program that identifies dolphins as non-human persons.
with the Natural History Museum in Maputo and other experts in the field. This creates a safe space for both human and dolphin to socially engage and limits the potential stress caused to the dolphins.
